Practice Grades: Weekly Warm Ups Students will be given a warm up sheet on Mondays, and expected to complete throughout the week and turn in on Fridays. These capture their thoughts around warm up topics along with reflections for concepts.
If students are absent one day, it is not a big concern. It is okay if they miss one. If students are going to be absent for longer than a day or two, they can make arrangements for an alternative assignment to make up for the warm ups. I do not post these, I want students thinking in class, privately and then an opportunity to turn and talk with other students and build on their thoughts. In the past when I have posted, some students like to work ahead. They are meant for that day, and in class use.
Math Facts: Math Facts are simply that. A chance for students to work on their math facts. Students will be at different levels and work on the number and operation that they are at. Students start on multiplications facts of 2-12. Once they completed those they will work on adding integers. (Positive and Negative numbers) Some students may struggle and may simply need to practice addition to help them with multiplications, this is an area in which they will be able to do that.
Math Facts are completed every Wednesday as a warm-up. If a student misses, they are exempt for that week, however they may make up if their choose to do so.
Graphic Organizers Graphic organizers will often be used in class to help students record information, notes, steps on solving problems, along with their thoughts and reflections on concepts. These are important to turn in as it helps me identify any misunderstandings students may be having. Class Activity Work Occasionally, classroom work will be but in grade book, and often collected to gain insight on student progress.
Assessment Grades: Exit Tickets These will often be given as an assessment recorded in grade book. Exit tickets will be given only after material is covered. Students are encouraged to do any corrections/ retakes to improve their understanding and grade. Usually these are tracked as a whole class to help the class meet class goals.
Assessments Students will be given pre and post assessments for the 7th grade concepts covered. The pre will not go in the grade book. The post assessment will be posted in grade book. Again, students are encouraged to do re-takes or corrections when necessary.
